Day trip to Vancouver.

Yesterday we went to Vancouver, just a 50 minute drive from Bellingham. After a 20 minute drive we had to stop at the Canadian border and got out to have a passport check and fill in a form. It all went very quickly and we got back in the van and headed on.
Our first stop was at Granville Island. There was not really much to do but visiting this huge market, so we did. There were lots of things to buy from food to coffee beans to fish an chocolate and so on. After we had wandered around for a bit we went back to the van and drove to Gastown.
We got dropped in Gastown and strolled around a bit and visited some souvenir shops. We continued our walk to find Chinatown. And oh my god, that was quite a scary walk for a few blocks. I was already warned by some friends of Marielle’s host family, but I didn’t imagine it would be like this. There was this street full of homeless people, screaming, begging and pushing. We went looking for a coffee shop and decided to take another walk out of Chinatown .
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that it rained the entire time! But hey, I am not made of salt. Although. After this experience we found it time and a good Idea to look for a “café” and have a “soda” and wait till it was time to go back to the van again.
We sat down in this lovely “café” and talked a bit about our stay here in Bellingham. The café kind of reminded me of a German beer fest. There were all these benches next to each other and flags from different kind of countries hung at the ceiling.
We did have fun, but I thought it was a bit of a bummer that we had no guided tour through the city since we just had a couple of hours to see the town.
On our way back we had to stop at the American border and had a passport check again. it went all nice and easy and we headed back home.
